Amsterdam (IJmuiden)
Ferry Port Overview
Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands.
Its name is derived from "Amstel dam"
pointing to the city's origin: a dam on the
river Amstel.
The city, founded in the late 12th century
as a small fishing village, has grown to
become the largest city in the Netherlands.
This exciting city is known for its many
canals with the elegant canal houses which
have led to Amsterdam being called the
"Venice of the North".
Amsterdam has a rich and diverse cultural
heritage. Tourist attractions in Amsterdam
are the Rijksmuseum, which features a
magnificent selection of Dutch paintings
from the Golden Age, the Anne Frank House in
the centre Amsterdam where Anne Frank wrote
her famous diary during World War II and
Artis Zoo, the oldest Zoo in the
Netherlands.
Amsterdam City Centre is only 30 minutes by
tourist bus from the Felison Terminal Cruise
Berth in IJmuiden where DFDS Seaways ferries
dock.
