Cork Ferry Port Overview
Cork Ferry Port is situated in Ringaskiddy
village 12 miles to the south of Cork city, in
Ireland. Cork Harbour is one of the largest
natural harbours in the world and is located at
the mouth of River Lee.
Cork city is located slightly upstream on the
River Lee to the northwest of Cork Harbour,
whereas Ringaskiddy lies on the lower harbour on
the western shore and has therefore been
developed into a modern deep water ferry port
because of its easy access to Cork and
surrounding cities.
Thanks to a sustained period of traffic growth
and investment in modern facilities extending
over the past 35 years, Cork is today
acknowledged as one of Europe's most progressive
and successful ferry ports.
Cork is a very important sea port, offering
shortest and fastest ferry route to the
continent from Ireland. The Port of Cork is
enjoying high traffic with an average of 36
cruise ships scheduled.
Cork is the third largest town in Ireland, after
Dublin and Belfast and its port is the gateway
to Kerry, Limerick, Clare and Southern Ireland.
Cork is a historic place and yet very modern and
dynamic, with all the amenities of a big city in
terms of shopping, dining and entertainment.
The River Lee flows through the Cork city in two
main channels and some of the main streets are
built over these channels. A great way to see
the city is to walk along the hilly streets and
explore the splendid architecture.
St. Finn Barre's Cathedral, a fine example of
French Gothic architecture, The Tudor - Gothic
University College with its attractive riverside
quadrangle, the Blackrock Castle, The Crawford
Gallery with interesting sculpture collection,
Beamish Stout Brewery, the Jameson Heritage
Centre, The Royal Gun Powder mills along with
open air street markets which represent the folk
culture of Cork are just a few of the many
attractions in and around Cork.
