Ostend Ferry Port Overview
Ostend (Dutch: Oostende) is a Belgian city
situated in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium,
Flanders. The charming town and port of Ostend
are over a thousand years old. The major source
of income for the inhabitants was fishing.
Nowadays Ostend is one of Belgium's most popular
seaside resorts and an ideal holiday destination
for the whole family with excellent beaches,
restaurants, shops, hotels and attractions.
Ostend has a number of interesting museums such
as the Museum of Fine Arts featuring the work of
famous Belgian painter James Ensor, the
provincial museum of modern art with an overview
of the recent history of Belgian Art and The
Mercator, a floating museum, which was
originally an old navy training ship. Or visit
the North Sea Aquarium, the Twin towers of the
Saint Peter and Saint Paul's church, built in
1904-1905 and designed by Declacenserie and Fort
Napoleon, the only Napoleonic fortress left in
Europe.

Services
There is a conveniently located railway
station located next to the ferry terminal
as well as telephones and a taxi rank.
Facilities for disabled passengers are
available at the port, with wheelchair
access throughout the terminal.

By Road
Ostend Ferry port is well situated and acts
as a gateway to countries like France,
Holland and Germany. It is directly linked
to the A10/E40 motorway (200 metres from the
Transeuropa ferry terminal).
By Rail
The railway station close to car ferry
terminal has a high-speed `Thalys' rail
connection with France, Belgium, Germany and
the Netherlands. Ostend is just one a half
hours from Paris and two hours from
Amsterdam.
